Top Things to Ask For at the Nail Salon
Published February 18, 2022
When visiting a nail salon, you should choose the type of manicure you want. Standard nail polish, dip powder, gel, and acrylic are all possible choices. Also, you will need to select and pick your desired color or maybe add extras like nail art.
What To Ask For At The Nail Salon
Every time you’re thinking of what to ask for at the nail salon, the first thing that comes to mind is a manicure, and there will be many options to choose from. However, five types of manicures are widely popular: standard nail polish, acrylic, dip powder, Shellac, and gel. You may also have a paraffin manicure with any of them; this is a treatment where your hands will be dipped in wax.
Standard Nail Polish
You can apply it yourself or visit a nail salon for a professional treatment that includes a hand massage! Simply make sure that you spend enough time with the nail dryer to avoid dents.
Acrylic
In regards to what to ask for at a nail salon, acrylic nails are the original nail extensions, a mixture of liquid and powder that forms a hard outer layer over your actual nail and false tips. When exposed to air, the mixture hardens and forms a transparent canvas for standard nail polish.
Dip Powder
Dip powder manicures can be done quickly and do not require the same skill level as other types of manicures. Instead of using lacquer, the color is given by a pigmented powder. Your nails will be dipped into a container of your chosen color in between the base and topcoats. Because the powder sticks only to the sealant, it prevents messy cuticles. Also, it is more flexible than other extensions, which may make it more comfortable for your nails but prone to breaking if not maintained.
Shellac
It’s basically a cross between nail polish and gel that is cured and toughened using UV light. Shellac is a registered trademark of CND, the company that invented and registered this type of polish. It is softer than gel and is easily removed with acetone.
Gel
Also referred to as “hard gel,” it can be put over natural or artificial nails. The main difference between gel and Shellac (or soak-off gel) is you have the option to increase your nail’s length, which can be molded and shaped similar to acrylic.
Paraffin Manicure
While a paraffin manicure is not technically a nail treatment, it is used for your hands. It can be applied on top of your other manicure. Your hands will be dipped into warm paraffin wax — or sometimes beeswax — and placed in gloves to harden slowly. The wax is peeled off once it has hardened. You’ll find softer and refreshed hands than they’ve ever been!
Takeaway
Before having your nails done, be sure to know what to ask for at the nail salon and be familiar with the options being offered. It’s also important to do some research on a salon, check out their reviews, and make sure they offer a quality service.
